Big Foot is described as a large hairy ape-like creature, ranging between 6–10 feet tall, weighing in excess of 500 pounds, and covered in dark brown or dark reddish hair, who walks upright on his two hind legs. Alleged witnesses have described large eyes, a "pronounced brow ridge, and a large, low-set forehead"(Fahrenbach). The top of the head has been described as rounded, similar to a male gorilla. Bigfoot is commonly reported to have a strong, pungent smell. The enormous footprints for which it is named have been as large as 24 inches long and 8 inches wide.
Big Foot was common folk lore before any reports in newspaper tabloids, many native americans spoke of a tall, hairy, wild man. Although the Big Foot craze did not start until around 1967.
